LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARDS: THIS PROGRAM IS A UNIQUE EDUCATION AWARD FOR WOMEN WHO PROVIDE THE PRIMARY FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THEIR FAMILIES. THIS AWARD GIVES WOMEN THE RESOURCES THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THEIR EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS.
Annually, Soroptimist disburses over $2.9 million in educational grants to support the dreams of over 2,000 women worldwide. More than half of the beneficiaries of our Live Your Dream Awards are resilient survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, or sexual assault. Nearly all the women and families we assist have triumphed over substantial challenges, including poverty, teenage pregnancy, and struggles with drug or alcohol addiction. The recipients of the Live Your Dream Awards are free to utilize the cash grants to alleviate any expenses associated with their pursuit of higher education, covering costs such as textbooks, childcare, tuition, and transportation.
THULIPOKHARI, NEPAL: WELCOME TO OUR LIFE-CHANGING PROJECT IN THULIPOKHARI, NEPAL! THIS INITIATIVE, WHICH ORIGINATED WITH SI TRUCKEE MEADOWS AND IS NOW CARRIED FORWARD BY SI SIERRA RENO, SUPPORTS A GIRLS' DORMITORY PROVIDING ESSENTIAL HOUSING, EDUCATION, AND ACCESS TO RUNNING WATER FOR YOUNG WOMEN IN THULIPOKHARI, NEPAL.
In addition to our girls' dormitory project, our organization is committed to fostering sustainable development in Thulipokhari. We work hand in hand with the local community to implement long-term solutions that go beyond the dormitory's immediate impact. This includes initiatives such as vocational training programs, healthcare access, and community engagement projects aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life for both the young women we support and the wider community.
DREAM IT, BE IT: CAREER SUPPORT FOR GIRLS GIVES GIRLS THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE THEIR EDUCATION AND CAREER GOALS, EMPOWERING THEM TO BREAK CYCLES OF POVERTY, VIOLENCE, AND ABUSE.
While recognizing the challenges that all girls may encounter due to their gender, our primary focus is on girls facing additional hurdles, such as poverty, unstable home environments, involvement in foster care, or teenage motherhood. Soroptimist clubs collaborate closely with these girls, either in small group settings or during conferences, to offer them the essential information and resources required for their empowerment and success.
ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS IN NORTHERN NEVADA: SI SIERRA RENO IS DEDICATED TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY YEAR-ROUND. WE UNDERTAKE A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES DESIGNED TO UPLIFT AND SUPPORT WOMEN AND FAMILIES ALL ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA.
Our engagement in the Northern Nevada community is multifaceted and deeply rooted in our desire to create a better future for all. During the holiday season, we collaborate with local schools to provide essential food, necessities, and heartfelt gifts to families in need, ensuring that the spirit of giving thrives in our community.
Empowering the next generation of young women is another cornerstone of our work, as we partner with the Girl Scouts on projects aimed at fostering leadership, self-confidence, and growth.
Beyond these endeavors, we dedicate our time to volunteering across various initiatives, whether it's mentoring youth, participating in environmental cleanups, or supporting local shelters. Fundraising plays a pivotal role in enabling us to sustain and expand our community-focused initiatives, allowing us to reach even more individuals in need.
Our commitment goes beyond individual projects; it's a reflection of our enduring dedication to the well-being and prosperity of Northern Nevada. By working hand in hand with our community members, we aim to create lasting positive change that enriches lives, fosters empowerment, and strengthens the bonds of our shared Northern Nevada family.
